Parking on Grangegorman Lower
Since the parking has been removed from the area in front of the Clocktower the parking on Grangegorman Lower has become a source of conflict and irritation for the residents of this community. The road has also become very dangerous for cyclists. When the ‘traffic permeability plan’ for Grangegorman was originally proposed the additional traffic caused by the carpark and parents waiting for while their children attend music classes was not considered. It is time to review the traffic plan before there is an accident.
When the initial plan for the SDZ was created there was a ‘Mobility Management Plan’ proposed. <Click here>. If you look at the bottom of page 51 of this document it says:
‘The parking permit system will remove the possibility of motorists driving to the site speculatively for parking spaces. Dublin City Council will control and manage on street parking to discourage overspill parking on the surrounding streets.‘ Unfortunately the possibility of parents driving to the site and parking for long periods was not considered and this is the main source of parking issues.
